Abstract:

In many high-stakes testing programs, including the SHRM certification exams, post-exam surveys are used.  These are opportunities to ask examinees about their feedback, opinions, and behaviors in the testing process.  However, there are reasons to be skeptical about the results due to the situation in which the questions are asked.  SHRM has conducted some interesting research using this type of data, which include surprising findings about the examinees, their preparation, and potential validity results. Nevertheless, questions about the true meaning of data collected in this situation (after an exhausting exam but before the results are known) remain.
