What happens when organizations become more diverse? Lessons from demographic shifts in police departments

Jirs Meuris, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Dr. Jirs Meuris, a Professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss his research on the consequences of increased representation of women and racial minorities in law enforcement. He will show that these demographic shifts can have pitfalls (higher rates of discrimination, higher use-of-force, less rewards) based on his research with the implication that increasing representation without creating the right conditions not only prevents positive outcomes from diversity but can exacerbate negative outcomes.
