Bridging the Scientist-Practitioner Gap: How Our Research Should Benefit the People We Study
Does research in I-O psychology actually end up benefiting people's day to day working lives? Apart from the hard work of many practitioners who lead the way in translating scientific research studies to help the employees in their company or their clients, what else can be done to ensure that I-O exemplifies the scientist-practitioner model that our field is built on? In this talk, I will begin by discussing the state of the discourse surrounding the scientist-practitioner gap – including both scholarly articles and practical debates that have arisen on the topic. The bulk of the time will be spent on specific ways that all of us, including both academics and practitioners, can work together to bridge the gap: new initiatives, publishing platforms, science communication training, incentive structures, and more. Attendees will hopefully leave with a renewed sense of vision for what the scientist-practitioner model can and should look like, along with practical next steps for how to contribute to that vision.
5:30-8:30pm: Networking, Hors D'oeuvres and Drinks, and Booths for Sponsors
Registration closes at 11PM EST on Wednesday, November 20th. Register now!
